Counsel I.  Parents and students  who are considering applying for any UWC Belize offers are advised to read and analyse thoroughly  the general principles which guides the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program.

Counsel II.  Parents and students who wish to apply for and compete for UWC placements are to visit the UWC page of the UWC College/country making the offer.  They are strongly advised to read about the UWC College to verify that it will meet their educational expectations and needs.

Counsel III.  Parents and students applying for UWC Belize placements need to understand that this is a two year pre-college diploma program and that at this time there is the Shelby Davis Scholarship - leading towards a four year Bachelors in the US - available to the Belizean student on the successful completion of his/her IB Diploma program. Please note,the College or Country making the offer may have its own requirements for the Bachelor program for students to compete for on completion of their IB.

Counsel IV.  Parents and students applying for UWC Belize placements should understand that applying for a Shelby Davis Scholarship does not automatically mean completing the Bachelor in two more years of university level studies.  Completing the Bachelors, and the time it takes to complete it depends on several variables. Some of these variables include:

1. Credit hours transferability and acceptance by university applied to
2. That the said university applied to is progressive and knowledgeable about the internationally recognised IB Diploma program
3. The course of studies to be undertaken at the university applied to (for example, some Bachelors programs naturally require more credit hours, or number of specific credit hours in specific subject areas)
4. The standards and philosophical underpinnings of the university applied to - some universities have stiffer, stringent or higher standards than others.
